I'll be hosting a hands-on demo booth in conjunction with the San Juan Islands Textile Guild, Thursday, August 14.  If you're out in the islands, stop by and play in the kakishibu.  Hope to see you there.

Participation at the San Juan Island County Fair far exceeded expectations.  78 people made sun patterned silk scarves in 5 hours.  Fortunately, we had abundant sunshine and assistants to accomodate them.  Scarves dried quickly and the patterns were quite defined.  People tied in gravel, shells, wooden pieces, joinery biskits and marbles.  The seats at the tables were almost constantly filled.  Kits containing 3 silk scarves, a cotton bandana and enough kakishibu to dye all of them were offered for sale.  10 people were intrigued enough to buy kits to try at home.  Many, many thanks to all the San Juan Textile Guild members for inviting me and especially to Jo Critchlow for her tireless support and gracious hospitality.
